Course Title

Selected Topics in American Literature: Science Fiction and Fantasy in American Literature

Department(s)

Description

This course will examine how American fantasy and science fiction writers use fantastic, non-realistic storytelling: (1) to explore human relationships and psychology outside of their usual contexts, (2) to comment on social and political issues, and (3) to engage in a literary conversation with other writing in their genre. The reading list will focus more on recent and unconventional authors than on the standard list of classics.
