This class covers events of “the Long Century” from the French Revolution of 1789 to the First World War in 1914. Subjects include 19th century political upheavals, European overseas empires, new intellectual currents and ideologies, adaptations and resistances to industrialism and the persistence of traditional structures within rapidly changing societies.
