Description

African American History from 1865 to 2000 introduces students to the African American experience in the United States from Emancipation through the end of the 20th Century. With an emphasis on developing student writing, we will examine a variety of resource materials including secondary literature, primary sources, and cultural artifacts as we delve into touchstone moments including Reconstruction, the Great Migration, World War I, the New Negro Renaissance, the Great Depression, the New Deal, World War II, the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, the rise of black conservatism, and the new Black Renaissance of the 1990s.
