A practical study of rhythmic techniques in jazz for nondrummers. Emphasis on swing rhythm, rhythmic independence, polyrhythms, rhythmic phrase construction and rhythmic practices for accompanying. Students will explore the role of the drummer in the jazz ensemble and the characteristics of the drum kit through listening and practice.
