There is currently too much material in the course Math 308 to do a good job covering everything in 3 hours. For example, cardinality is often given a cursory treatment. The increase in hours will also allow the instructor to carefully cover the

Secondary School Education Concentration:

There is currently too much material in the Math 308 to do a good job covering everything in 3 hours. For example, cardinality is often given a cursory treatment. The increase in hours will also allow the instructor to carefully cover the construction of the real numbers. This will better prepare the students for 323.

Much of what is presently covered in Math 34500 is also covered in Math 34700 and in its present form, Math 345 does not really cover enough material to be suitable for math majors. The additional hour will allow for a fuller treatment of certain topics and will allow instructors to introduce a computational component to the class. These changes will make the course more appropriate for math majors and potentially increase interest in the course for math majors who have been asking for more classes with a computational component because they currently have limited exposure to programming in other pure math courses.
