World History to 1500

The earliest societies on every continent bequeathed to us models for living in a wide variety of domains. Through a contemporary lens, this course raises critical questions about human beings’ spectacular emergence and development from early societies to ca. 1500 CE. Topics may include but are not limited to: innovation and technology; social organization and family; communication and language; trade and competition; politics, governance, and warfare; philosophy and religion; arts and culture; and the natural and built environments. Specific content may vary by instructor.
